HGA undertook the role of Principle Designer for the replacement of the Westend switchboard & generator synchronisation at Weston General Hospital. In addition to Principle Designer duties, HGA provided engineering design for the LV switch board, Project Management and Contract Administrator duties.
Weston General Hospital requested that a number of resilience upgrades were undertaken to the LV distribution systems, these included replacing old switchgear, linking switchboards at both ends of the site and providing generator synchronisation to existing generating equipment.
Working in a live hospital environment provided its own complexities with regards to phasing and maintaining of critical services. Many supervised change overs took place between 2300 and 0600 where power outages could be managed by hospital staff.
Comprehensive commissioning and witnessing was undertaken for the G59 protection systems and switching arrangements to ensure compliance with the Clients requirements Healthcare Technical Memorandum and the distribution network operator.
